For the past 29 years, Catholic Life Insurance has hosted a “Flag Day Celebration” event at our Home Office Building in San Antonio, Texas, commemorating the U.S. Flag’s birthday.  This event is free to the public and promotes patriotism in the community through the celebration of a great American symbol.

Honoring the 244th anniversary of our nation’s Flag and Catholic Life 120th year of operations. This event will take place on Sunday, June 13, and is free to the public kicking off with a Mass at 5:30 PM in our parking lot, followed by an unveiling of the Angels Unaware Sculpture, a second casting of a piece commissioned by Pope Francis and created by Canadian artist Timothy Schmalz, who has received broad attention for his Homeless Jesus sculpture, and the Flag raising ceremony at 6:45 PM. The celebration will feature a tribute to the Flag, refreshments, patriotic music, and children’s activities. There will also be a picnic of hotdogs, burgers, and ice cream. Free commemorative t-shirts will be given while supplies last. Those who would like to reserve a space at the event should contact the Communications Department at (210) 828-9921 by June 8. You may also submit your reservation via email to branch@cliu.com.

This year marked the 75th anniversary of the Act of Congress establishing June 14 as National Flag Day. Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the first United States Flag by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The festivities are designed to increase awareness of the Flag and to reinforce the principles of liberty and justice as defined in the Pledge of Allegiance.
