Flag Day & Children's Poster Contest

Despite the rain in San Antonio's forecast, our 2013 Flag Day Celebration was a success! Witnessed by 150 guests, our new 120-foot flag pole was blessed and then the American Flag was raised while President/CEO J. Michael Belz made a presentation accompanied by a patriotic brass band. District Directors Sandy King and Gladys Haecker led everyone in the Star-Spangled Banner, followed by all of the children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
A Mass followed the Flag Raising, and then everyone enjoyed a hot dog and ice cream social. The children were entertained by a face painter and balloon artist Daisy Bee, and they took their pictures as Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam. At the end of the evening, all of our guests left with a free, commemorative t-shirt.
We have hosted the Flag Day Celebration for the past 21 years in an effort to promote patriotism in the community through the celebration of a great American symbol. The festivities are designed the increase awareness of the Flag and to reinforce the principles of liberty and justice as defined in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Each year, we kick off the anniversary of the American Flag with our annual Flag Day Children's Poster Contest. We invite all children currently enrolled in grades K-5th to proudly show us what the Flag means to them. This contest is an opportunity for children to express creativity and originality, while honoring a sacred American symbol.
