HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE U.S. FLAG!
For the 23rd consecutive year, Catholic Life Insurance will host an old fashioned American Flag raising ceremony honoring the 238th anniversary of our nation’s Flag. The event will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at the Catholic Life Home Office building, located at 1635 N.E. Loop 410 in San Antonio.
This event is free to the public and kicks off with a Mass at 9 a.m. in our outdoor pavilion, followed by a Flag raising ceremony at 10 a.m. The event will feature a tribute to the flag, breakfast, refreshments, music and children’s activities. Free commemorative t-shirts will be given while supplies last. Those who would like to reserve a space at the event should call (210) 828-9921 or (800) 929-2548 ext. 141 by June 6. You may also submit your reservation via email to email@example.com. Please remember to bring a chair or blanket if you desire.
Catholic Life has hosted this event for the past 23 years in an effort to promote patriotism in the community through the celebration of a great American symbol. This year marks the 66th anniversary of the Act of Congress establishing June 14 as National Flag Day. Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the first United States Flag by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The festivities are designed to increase awareness of the Flag and to reinforce the principles of liberty and justice as defined in the Pledge of Allegiance.
FLAG DAY CHILDREN'S POSTER CONTEST
Each year, we kick off the anniversary of the American Flag with our annual Flag Day Children's Poster Contest. We invite all children currently enrolled in grades K-5th to proudly show us what the Flag means to them. This contest is an opportunity for children to express creativity and originality, while honoring a sacred American symbol.
The theme for the 2015 Flag Day Children's Poster Contest is "Our Flag Stands for Freedom." It's the 238th anniversary of the American Flag, which flies for freedom. You are free to grow up to be whatever you want to be, whether it be a doctor, a teacher, a police officer, an artist, an athlete, etc. What do you want to be when you grow up?
(Posters must include the American Flag.)
